Terms
All LEAP² challenges are organised by GoodUp, Close the Gap and a local partner whereby businesses, that boost the digitalization, have the opportunity to crowdfund for a project within their business.
GoodUp
GoodUp is the parent organisation of 1%Club. 1%Club is the do-good crowdfunding platform for projects that really makes a difference. We are passionate about empowering people to create positive change in their community, city, country – or in the world.
Close the Gap
Close the Gap is an international non-profit organisation that aims to bridge the digital divide by offering high-quality, pre-owned computers donated by large and medium-sized corporations or public organisations to educational, medical, entrepreneurial and social projects in developing and emerging countries.
Participant
A business or project that works on closing the digital divide and has a positive impact on closing the digital divide with a financially sustainable model, based in Kenya which has been running for 0-3 years.
Application
When you apply you can fill out an application from on our register page. The LEAP² team will get back to you and the ten selected businesses will be announced on the date communicated on the challenge page.
Crowdfunding campaign
During the challenge the innovations will run a crowdfunding campaign for a project within their business. These campaigns kick off after the refresh training and will last one month.
What is crowdfunding?
Crowdfunding is an online way of raising funds for a project through many (small) supporters. We see that crowdfunding works best if you can activate your own network.

- All LEAP² challenges are organised by GoodUp, Close the Gap and a local partner.
- All businesses that work on closing the digital divide, boost digitalization and are based in the challenge specific country and have been running 0-3 years are welcome to apply. Please keep in mind that there might be some challenge specific criteria which you can find on the challenge page.
- Keep an eye on our registration page for registration for LEAP² challenges.
- To participate one must complete and submit the online application form, which can be found on our registration page.
- Ten businesses will be selected to participate in the challenge. The selection is done by a jury and based on the mentioned criteria.
- The campaigns always run for one month. During that time there are two events/days when you will be invited by the organising parter. All team members need to be present on both days.
- Before the start of the challenge all participants will receive a crowdfunding training. This will be part of the challenge (clear your schedule for the entire day). During that day you will be prepared to crowdfund. The results after that day: you will walk away will a full campaign plan and know all about crowdfunding.
- During your crowdfunding campaign you make use of The LEAP² platform and raise funds through the platform.
- There will be a final event (clear your schedule for the entire day). During this closing of the campaigns you will also finish your pitch training. You will walk away with a perfect pitch for your business.
- Each participant authorises the local partner, Close the Gap and GoodUp to use imagery/video material and quotes without any reimbursements.
- The LEAP² challenge organising committee is authorised to exempt participants from the challenge at all times should they not meet the criteria, uphold the arrangements and rules of the game, or show unacceptable behaviour.
- In all instances where the ‘rules of the game’ of the The LEAP² challenge, aren’t sufficient, the organising committee (Close the Gap, GoodUp and local partner) have the final say.
- Participants; candidates are eligible if…
- Your business’ team, joining the challenge, consists of at least 3 to 5 people.
- The innovation has been running for 0-3 years.
- Team members are fluent in English.
- The innovation has a strong business case and a financial need.
- The innovation contributes directly to closing the digital divide.
- The innovation has a financially sustainable model and is proven to be reputable.
- Your innovation is based in the country of the challenge.
Application
One can apply via the registration page.
Each team can only apply once.
After submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation from the organising committee.
All online communication with the business goes via the team captain, he/she is the first point of contact during the
challenge. He/she is responsible for the communication with the team.
Selection of the teams after applying
All complete applications will be reviewed.
The organising committee cannot be held responsible for applications that weren’t received because of technical difficulties or other reasons. If you have trouble with your application you can review the FAQ’s or email info@leap-2.com.
